The Sombe de Vieques resort was the first resort in Puerto Rico to reopen after Hurricane Maria, powered entirely by solar energy.
This was an initiative between the non-profit organization Sail Relief and the solar company Tabuchi Electric, which provided the necessary equipment to connect the lighting and the concessionaires located in the resort. According to Edgar Oscar Ruiz, a member of Sail Relief, the initiative helped the local economy by allowing nearby businesses to open.
